Emergency Auto-Braking System for diesel (ICE) Forklifts

We are seeking systems that can detect pedestrians within close proximity of the forklift and automatically stop the forklift, thereby preventing serious injuries or fatalities

Reward money is paid in exchange of legally acquiring the solution, implementing it to solve the problem and meeting the success criteria. Milestones for paying the reward money would depend upon the complexity of challenge and maturity of the proposed solution, which would be discussed with the solver as soon as the proposed solution is selected by us.

Challenge details:

Diesel forklifts currently rely on mechanical or hydraulic braking systems with minimal electronic control, making it difficult to integrate automatic braking features. Unlike electric forklifts, they lack native electronic interfaces for sensors or actuators.

The challenge is to develop a reliable, retrofit-capable pedestrian detection and emergency braking system that can automatically stop the forklift when a pedestrian is detected, thereby preventing serious injuries or fatalities.

The solution must function effectively in harsh industrial environments with dust, poor lighting,   cluttered layouts and rainy seasons , ensuring accurate detection and minimal false triggers. It should also be compatible with the limited electrical infrastructure of diesel forklifts, using an independent or auxiliary power source if required. Additionally, the system must meet industrial safety standards, offer fail-safe operation, and ensure smooth braking without affecting productivity or equipment reliability.

Crown wheels, which are critical components in automotive axles, are heated in a furnace to temperatures exceeding 960-degree C. The crown wheels are stacked together - typically 5 or 6 crown wheels - and each crown wheel is separated by a spacer (fixture). There are 25 types of crown wheels across 5 distinct families, each requiring precise thermal treatment.The crown wheels can weigh up to 45 Kg and have a diameter of 200-400 mm.The crown wheels need to be picked from the furnace and placed on the quenching fixture, before which the spacer needs to be removed. The takt time for one crown wheel is 1 minute.

Proposed approaches should ensure long‑term operational feasibility and support the company's broader circular‑materials strategy.
